Commissions

Thank you for your interest in commissioning a new piece! I am open to receiving commissions for any kind of instrument, ensemble or event.

Rates

Commissioning rates depend on the instrumentation, the length of the piece, and how much time I have to compose the piece. It is best to contact me at least 18 months before the piece is to be submitted to the performer(s). Please use the contact form below to contact me and inquire about rates.

Residency/Attendance at Premiere

I would love to have the chance to visit with the performing ensemble during the rehearsal process, to share more of my thoughts about the piece and to be able to answer any questions. And of course I would love to attend the premiere performance! If you’d like for me to attend rehearsals and/or the performance, I ask that you cover travel and lodging costs. Please let me know in advance and I can add these costs to the commission contract.

Dedication

The dedication to you, the commissioning party, will appear on the first page of the score and the parts, as well as in all programs and program notes. During the commissioning process we will discuss how you would like the dedication to read.

Copyright and Performance Rights

As the composer, I retain the copyright for all of my pieces. You as the commissioning party may request the right to perform the work for a period of time without anyone else being able to perform it. We will discuss this and it will be included in the contract.

ASCAP

I am a member of the performing rights organization ASCAP (the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers) and I report all performances of my music to them. Most concert halls and music venues pay a fee to ASCAP or BMI for performance of works by their members. I ask that your performance venue register the performance of my piece with ASCAP because I receive a small royalty payment from them.

Recording

I would appreciate a recording of the premiere performance for my own personal use. This recording will not be sold but will be for promotional material and my own records.
