Paradise Lost

They said you were weak that you’re only one girl
But you broke through and you made it
You said that you’re in but you’re not of this world
A zeal that slowly abated

You went down your path you made your own choice
But the pressure was too much to bear
You slowly gave in to the soft-spoken voice
That said “Nobody knows, and nobody cares”

Then one night in the dark you gave in to your heart
While your innocence bled on the floor
You descended the stairs and avoided the glares
As your friends shook their heads and they knowingly said
That they would have expected much more

Oh our paradise lost we’re all trying to get ourselves back in
Oh we’re all trying to find to find our way back to the garden

You’ve fallen from grace and you took the fall hard
There’s a face you don’t know in the mirror
You don’t know yourself you don’t know anybody else
And you feel your heart’s pain growing nearer

At night in your dreams you catch sudden gleams
Of the life that you thought you once knew
But he left you to bleed when you felt the most need
He said “I’m not your friend and it’s all going to end
Because I don’t give a damn about you”

You know there’s a way you’ve heard it all before
That there’s only a few who will find it
But it never was real and you never could feel
All the depth that they said was behind it

But you asked him one night you prayed in the dark
To the one who makes everything new
And like the first sight of home to the one on the road
He said “I’ll take your pain and I’ll show you the way
If you’ll only love me like I love you”

Oh our paradise lost we’re all trying to get ourselves back in
Oh we’re all trying to find to find our way back to the garden
To find our way back to the garden
To find our way back home
