Program Notes: Peasant Dance in A Major was originally planned as a violin duet that AJ could play with his teacher, at the time when he was taking violin lessons. His teacher belonged to a string trio called the “Chordae Cantates” (“singing strings”), and he changed the piece from a duet to a trio and dedicated it to them. When it was awarded a prize at the Pikes Peak Young Composers Competition, the Chordae Cantates performed the work at the winners’ recital.
