Passacaglia
Instrumentation: Two violins
Year composed: 1997
Place composed: Colorado Springs, CO
Awards: First place (in age division), Pikes Peak Young Composers Competition
Program Notes: At the time of Passacaglia‘s composition, AJ was taking violin lessons, and he wanted to try his hand at writing for a different medium than solo piano. The title, Passacaglia, refers to a Baroque dance form in which there is continuing repetition of a theme which is usually found in the bass voice; the piece is loosely based on this structure.
